Top 10 Albums of 2021 (Nigeria)

 

2021 has been a nice year for Nigerian music with a number of artists releasing projects through the year. Now it is time to rank the top ten best projects out of Nigeria in 2021.

 

10. Tems – If Orange Was A Place

After releasing her 2020 project, “For Broken Ears”, Tems has been having an enviable rise to fame. Her 2021 project “If Orange Was A Place” is an excellent project. Following the same trend of overcoming heartbreak confidently, Tems solidifies her stay in the Nigerian music realm.

 

9. Kizz Daniel – Barnabas

Kizz Daniel is back! With the release of his “Barnabas” project, Kizz Daniel seems to go back his early music days to reclaim his sound. “Pour Me Water”, “Lie”, and “Burn” are some of the best songs from this project.

 

8. LadiPoe – Providence

Of all the projects released from Mavins Records, LadiPoe managed to release the best. This project proves that LadiPoe is not a one hit wonder but can release a worthy project. With flows similar to those of Big Sean and Lecrae, LadiPoe finds solace in this project as his style and flow make this project one of the best out of Nigeria in 2021.

 

7. PsychoYP – Euphoria

PsychoYP keeps showing himself as one of the best in Nigeria’s trap culture. First with “YPSZN” in 2018, then “YPSZN2” in 2019, now “Euphoria”. “Euphoria comprises of eight songs created to blow you away. Songs like “Big Moves”, “Smoke 4 Free”, and “Industry N****s” are the highlights of a very impressive project from an underrated artist.

 

6. Blaqbonez – Sex Over Love

The debut album by Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez is unique in diverse ways. Unlike previous releases afro music was heavily used in the project making it relatable to Nigerians. With guest appearances from Nasty C, Amaarae, Joeboy, 1da Banton, and others the project is a very impressive debut album from Bad Boy Blaq.

 

5. Tay Iwar – Love & Isolation

Tay Iwar managed to break the boundaries of afro music to create this R&B project. Only five songs full and it is full in itself. Every song is soulful and relaxing. The project is full of chill vibes and relaxing melodies stacked from top to bottom.

4. Buju – Sorry I’m Late

The title of the project is “Sorry I’m Late” and Daniel Benson overcompensated for his “lateness” with this project. Every song is full with Buju’s playful melodies and is simply beautiful.

 

3. Ric Hassani – The Prince I Became

A triumphant return! Ric Hassani has truly stuck to his roots with this project. “The Prince I Became” is stacked with hits from top to bottom; not to mention that it is a full-length album. Songs like “Thunder Fire You” and “You Said” are excellent heartbreak songs while “Kpo Kpo di Kpo” and “Everything” are excellent love songs from a top-class project.

 

2. Teni – WONDALAND

Teniola Apata has silenced her haters with this project. “WONDALAND” is a full-length afro pop album that seems to have everything the usual pop album should have but with an afro vibe. Songs like “MOSLADO”, “INJURE ME”, and “TOXIC” are sure to resurrect your inner child.

 

1.       Joeboy – Somewhere Between Beauty and Magic

Since releasing his debut single “Baby” in 2019, Joeboy has been having a fantastic career. His debut album “Somewhere Between Beauty and Magic” shows of his style as the melodies keep hitting song after song. Songs like “Door”, “Focus”, and “Celebration” are some of the best songs off the very impressive album.
